Who Can Claim the Credit?

Buyer Eligibility:

• Ownership: You must have purchased the vehicle for personal use, not for resale.
• Prior Ownership: You should not be the original owner of the vehicle.
• Dependency: You cannot be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return.
• Credit History: You must not have claimed another used clean vehicle credit within the three years prior to this purchase.

Income Limits:

• $150,000 if married filing jointly or if you are a surviving spouse.
• $112,500 for heads of households.
• $75,000 for all other filers. You may use the lower AGI from either the year you take delivery of the vehicle or the previous year.

Vehicle Eligibility:

Qualified Vehicles and Sales Criteria:

• Sale Price: Must be $25,000 or less, excluding mandatory legal costs like taxes, or title and registration fees.
• Model Year: Must be at least two years older than the current calendar year. For example, a vehicle purchased in 2023 must be model year 2021 or older.
• Transfer Restrictions: Must not have been transferred to a qualified buyer after August 16, 2022.
• Weight Limit: Must have a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 14,000 pounds.
• Type and Battery: Must be an eligible Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) or plug-in Electric Vehicle (EV) with a battery capacity of at least 7 kilowatt hours.
• Usage: Primarily used within the United States.
